Uttarakhand Avalanche Update: In a major update on the rescue operation, four people have lost their lives in the incident, the Defence PRO Dehradun said. A total of 49 Border Roads Organisation (BRO) workers trapped under an avalanche were rescued. Efforts to rescue the others are underway. Fifty-five workers were trapped after an avalanche struck Mana village in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Friday.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is continuously reviewing the ongoing rescue operations. Dhami informed that he had a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has assured of all the possible help.

Rescue Operations Underway
Uttarakhand Disaster Management Secretary, Vinod Kumar Suman told ANI that 33 workers have been rescued. “33 workers have been rescued. Two of the 57 workers had gone on leave, so there were only 55 workers there,” said Suman.
Disaster Management Secretary further informed that inclement weather persists over the region and CM is continuously monitoring the situation. He said, “He (Uttarakhand CM) visited the control room twice yesterday. He sought a detailed update on everything. Rescue and relief operations are taking place swiftly. 33 out of 55 people were rescued until yesterday. 22 people still remain to be rescued. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing for them.”
Details On Rescue Operation

Suman also shared details regarding the rescue operation. He said that more than 200 people are ready to be dispatched to the spot, while our helicopters are operational. He assured that more facilities will be put in use if it is required.
He added, “One Mi-17 helicopter of the Indian Air Force is on standby; once the weather clears, it will be here. The weather is clearing in Joshimath. We are setting up a helipad near Mana because our helipad is covered with snow. Snow-clearing operations are ongoing. We hope that after the helipad is prepared, the rescue and relief operations will further speed up…The rescue was halted at night because there was continuous snowfall…To ensure that there was no threat to rescue and relief teams, the operation was halted at night. It has resumed this morning…”

Notably, Army, ITBP, BRO, NDRF, SDRF, Health Department, District Administration, Police Administration are engaged in rescue operation.
