Police were directed by Saharanpur Court to file a criminal case against the in-laws of a 30-year-old woman who was allegedly injected with an HIV-infected syringe over a dowry demand, reported News 18.
The victim, Sonal Saini, was married to Abhishek (also known as Sachin), the son of Nathiram Saini from Haridwar, Uttarakhand, on February 15, 2023.
Initially, at the wedding, Sonal’s family offered a dowry of Rs 15 lakh and a car. However, this was not deemed sufficient, and additional demands of Rs 25 lakh and a Scorpio SUV were made. When the bride’s family refused these demands, Sonal was forced out of marital home by her mother-in-law and father-in-law.
After the intervention of a village panchayat from Jaswawala, Haridwar, Sonal returned to her in-laws’ house, where she reportedly continued to suffer from physical and mental abuse.
According to the complaint, her in-laws conspired to kill her by injecting her with an HIV-infected syringe. Sonal’s health began to deteriorate, and when her husband took her to the hospital, the doctor declared her HIV-positive, while her husband tested negative. This fueled their suspicions.
Despite the complaint being filed with the police, no action was taken. The family then approached the local court, which directed the Gangoh Kotwali police to register a case against Abhishek, his parents, and other relatives. The accused now face serious charges, including dowry harassment, assault, and attempted murder.
