Uttar Pradesh: Kasganj Police Arrests Eight After 16-year-Old Alleges Gang Rape

In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by multiple men while she was with her fiancé near a canal.

Eight men were arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl when she was sitting in a field along with her fiancé in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh, police said, adding that a case under relevant sections of gang rape, extortion, and criminal intimidation was registered at Kasganj police station against 10 suspects.

Kasganj, Superintendent of Police, Ankita Sharma, said, “On April 10, around 2.30 pm, when the survivor was sitting with her fiancé close to a canal near a field, the suspects spotted her and outraged her modesty. They also robbed some money from the survivor’s fiancé.”

The woman alleged in her complaint that the suspects approached on motorcycles and started commenting. “They then took me to a secluded area and raped me,” she alleged in a complaint as quoted by The Indian Express.

Police said a joint team of the crime branch and Kasganj police arrested five suspects on Saturday and three on Sunday. Efforts are underway to nab the other suspects involved in the crime.
