The Uttar Pradesh Police has reduced Deputy Superintendent Kripa Shankar Kannaujiya to the rank of constable, following an incident three years ago where he was discovered in a compromising position with a female constable at a hotel.
Previously serving as Circle Officer (CO) Bighapur in Unnao, Kanaujia has now been reassigned to the 26th Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) battalion in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. His decline started when he disappeared after going on leave in July 2021.
Kanaujia requested leave for family reasons but, instead of going home, he checked into a hotel in Kanpur with a female constable. During this period, he turned off both his personal and official mobile phones, which aroused suspicions.
Worried by her husband’s sudden disappearance, the CO’s wife reached out to the SP Unnao for help. The situation intensified when a surveillance team found that Kanaujia’s mobile network had stopped working after he arrived at the Kanpur hotel.

Unnao Police quickly responded and went to the hotel, where they discovered the CO and the female constable together. Their arrival and presence at the hotel were captured by CCTV cameras, providing key evidence for the subsequent investigation.
Following the incident, a report was submitted to the government. After a thorough review, the government recommended demoting Kripa Shankar Kanaujia to the rank of constable.
The ADG Administration swiftly issued an order to implement this decision, leading to the downfall of the once-prominent officer.
