A 70-year-old man died after being hit by a bullet during celebratory firing at a farewell party in Gahalwara village. The accident took place at around 9:00 pm on April 16 at the house of Chandu, son of Nadir, where a farewell ceremony was organized for Chandu’s daughter. Around 40 to 50 relatives of the daughter’s in-laws had come from the Kakori Mod area to join the celebration.
During the celebrations, there were gunshots fired into the air. Unfortunately, one of the bullets hit Chandu’s older brother, 70-year-old Shamsher, also referred to as Shera, son of Hashim. Shamsher was coming back from saying namaz when he was injured by the stray bullet. He died before he could be rushed to the hospital.
After preliminary inquiries and witness statements, police lodged a case against unknown individuals under pertinent legal sections. The corpse was taken for postmortem examination after following the routine Panchayatnama procedure.
The police on April 17 identified the suspect as Imran, aged 25, son of Jabbar and a resident of Kakori Mod under the Para police station. Imran, who had been present at the function from the bride’s in-laws’ side, was arrested on the basis of physical and electronic evidence, and eye witness descriptions.
