The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPSESSB) has postponed the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UP TET) 2025, causing disappointment among lakhs of aspirants who have been waiting for the exam for years. The exam was earlier scheduled to be held on January 29 and 30, but will now be conducted at a later date, which is yet to be announced.
The decision to defer the exam was taken during a meeting chaired by UPSESSB Chairman Prashant Kumar, a former Director General of Police (DGP). Officials said the postponement was due to administrative and technical reasons, adding that preparations for such a large-scale examination required more coordination.

Why the UP TET Exam Was Postponed?
According to the commission, the postponement is part of a broader effort to streamline the examination process. In an official statement, the board said a comprehensive schedule for all pending recruitment exams including the Uttar Pradesh Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT), Post Graduate Teacher (PGT), and TET examinations will be prepared after reviewing the schedules of other commissions and institutions.
“This decision has been taken to ensure transparency and proper management of long-pending examinations,” the board said. The commission also acknowledged that conducting these exams in a timely and fair manner remains one of the biggest challenges before the new leadership.
Prashant Kumar assumed charge as chairman on December 19, and his tenure will last three years. Other members of the commission have around one year left in their term, making the timely completion of delayed exams a key priority.
UP TET Exam Postponed New Dates Announced?
More than 15 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the UP TET exam, underlining the scale and importance of the test. The last UP TET was conducted on January 23, 2022, meaning aspirants have been waiting for nearly four years for the next opportunity.
Candidates are advised to remain cautious and rely only on updates published on the official UPESSC website. The commission has warned aspirants against believing unofficial dates or information circulating on social media platforms.
What Is UP TET and Why It Matters?
UP TET is a state-level eligibility examination conducted to assess candidates seeking teaching jobs in Uttar Pradesh government schools. It is mandatory for aspirants aiming to teach Classes 1 to 8.
The exam is divided into two parts Paper I for candidates aspiring to teach Classes 1 to 5, and Paper II for those targeting Classes 6 to 8. While qualifying UP TET does not guarantee a government job, it makes candidates eligible to apply for teacher recruitment processes conducted by the state.
With the exam postponed once again, aspirants are hoping the commission will soon announce clear timelines and bring long-awaited clarity to the recruitment process.
