Prayagraj: A socking incident has come to light from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, where a property dealer allegedly killed his 17-year-old grand-nephew by chopping him into pieces. Police on Thursday said that the man was under the influence of a tantric (occultist) to end difficulties in his life, that’s why he killed his nephew. It is alleged that the man severed his head and torso, and disposed of the body parts in different locations. The accused, identified as Sharan Singh has been arrested from the Kareli area.
Accused Cites Shocking Reason
Singh’s two children, a daughter and a son had died by suicide earlier in 2023 and 2024 respectively. His brother also succumbed to an illness, stated the police, as reported by HT. He had reportedly suffered business losses along with other personal difficulties.
Deputy Police Commissioner, Prayagraj (city), Abhishek Bharti said that Singh has confessed to his crime, and the police are searching for the tantrik. Bharti mentioned that Singh led the police to the locations where body parts were recovered. During this, Singh told the investigators, that he was in shock following the suicide of his children. He is the brother of the victim’s grandfather.
As he was shocked by the demise of his children, Sharan consulted an occultist, tantric in Hindi, to know why his son and daughter took the extreme step. The tantric allegedly told Singh, that his grand-nephew Piyush was supposed to die, but as he did not, therefore his children took the place. The occultist then advised Singh to kill someone of the age of his own children to get rid off his problems. As Piyush was the easiest target, he killed him.
Piyush, a Class 11 student at Saraswati Vidya Mandir, was reported missing on Tuesday. He left for school but never came back. His mother then filed a missing person report at the Kareli police station.
An investigation into the case was launched on Tuesday, and police found a torso in a drain in the Naini industrial area. The body could not be identified at the time as the head was missing. Piyush’s head was discovered in the Saidpur Kachhar area of Kareli on Wednesday, leading to the identification of his body.
As the police inquired further, a local woman stated that she had seen a man on a scooter throwing a bundle into the drain. Her description of the individual matched that of Sharan, and he was arrested through the registration number of his scooter, as seen in the CCTV.
