One person died and at least eight others were reported missing after a boat capsized in a river in the Bahraich forest area on Wednesday.
According to PTI, the incident took place in the Kaudiyala river near the remote Bharathapur village, located in a densely forested area. According to locals, four people managed to swim to safety.
Bahraich SP R. N. Singh said, “Today in Bharathapur, which is the last village of our Janpad (block) and is located in a forested area, people were going to the Hartiya market in Lakhimpur Kheri district to shop. While on their way, the boat hit a log, lost balance, and overturned. In this tragic incident, there were 22 people on the boat. Out of them, eight people are missing, 13 have been rescued, and one person has died. Efforts are ongoing, and we hope the missing people will be found soon.”
Woman killed in Delhi hit-and-run
Delhi Police solved a blind hit-and-run case in which a woman injured in the accident was taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Acting on information received at 2:32 p.m. at Police Station I.P. Estate, an FIR was registered under Sections 281 and 106(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. During the investigation, the police traced the offending vehicle involved in the incident, a white Hyundai i20. The team also coordinated with the 112 Control Room to determine the exact time of the accident and subsequently analysed multiple CCTV footage clips installed along the Yamuna Bridge stretch.
During the inquiry, one driver informed the police that the offending vehicle was a white Hyundai i20 fleeing toward Sachivalaya Bhawan; however, the number plate was unclear. Further analysis of the footage up to Kishan Ghat revealed the registration number: DL-3CBZ-9255.
