In a tragic accident early Monday morning, a speeding car broke through the railing of a flyover in Ghaziabad’s Sihani Gate area and plunged nearly 50 feet down into the premises of the Public Works Department (PWD) office. The incident left a 48-year-old man dead and his son critically injured, creating panic at the site.
Car crashes through railing after driver reportedly dozes off
According to police, Rakesh and his son Prince were returning home to Sanjay Nagar from the Bus Adda Road side when the accident occurred. As the vehicle approached the Sihani Gate flyover, Prince, who was driving, allegedly fell asleep momentarily. This brief lapse caused the car to veer out of control.
The speeding vehicle rammed into the flyover railing, tearing through the metal barrier before plunging straight into the PWD office compound below. The impact from the 50-foot fall left the car completely mangled.
Father dies on the spot, son hospitalised in critical condition
Local police reached the location immediately after receiving information about the crash. Officers began rescue operations and rushed the injured Prince to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. His father, Rakesh, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The deceased’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. The suddenness of the incident left commuters and locals in shock, with broken debris scattered across the flyover.
Police scan CCTV footage to establish exact cause
The Sihani Gate police have launched an investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident. Teams are examining CCTV footage from cameras installed along the flyover and nearby areas. Initial findings suggest that drowsy driving may have triggered the loss of control, but officials aim to verify this through video evidence and technical analysis of the crash site.
