UP News: Samajwadi Party MLA from Ghosi, Sudhakar Singh, dies at 67 after prolonged illness

Samajwadi Party MLA Sudhakar Singh from Ghosi passed away at 67 after a period of declining health. His death has left a major void in Ghosi’s political landscape.

Samajwadi Party MLA Sudhakar Singh, who represented the Ghosi constituency in Uttar Pradesh, has died at the age of 67. His party confirmed the loss with a heartfelt message, expressing deep grief and offering condolences to his family. Earlier, he was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Lucknow after his health suddenly deteriorated. Reports indicate that he was suffering from multiple organ failure.

Singh had won the Ghosi seat in a by-election in September 2023, defeating Dara Singh Chauhan by a substantial margin. He had earned a reputation in his constituency for his grassroots connect and firm political presence.

Powerful political journey

Sudhakar Singh was elected to the 18th Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly and held a Master of Arts in Sociology from Deen Dayal Upadhyay University in Gorakhpur. Politically, he aligned with the Samajwadi Party, becoming an important face in Mau district.

However, his political journey was not without controversy. In July 2025, a special MP/MLA court in Mau upheld a district court’s decision declaring him an absconder in a criminal case dating back to 1986. The case stemmed from an alleged incident at a 400 kV electricity substation, where Singh was accused of organising a protest, causing vandalism and obstructing government work. His lawyers argued he was unaware of the court summons and claimed the proceedings were politically motivated.

Despite the legal troubles, Singh remained an active figure in regional politics, continuing his work in Ghosi until his untimely death.

The party and his supporters are mourning his loss and his death is likely to leave a noticeable void in the local political landscape.
