Bihar: A shocking case of fraud has emerged in Patna, the capital of Bihar, involving an attempt to claim insurance money after a hotel incident. Using a fake death certificate, an attempt was made to claim 8.3 million rupees from an American insurance company. However, when the company’s officials arrived in Patna to investigate the matter, the fraud was exposed.

On April 25, a fire broke out at the Pal and Amit Hotel near Patna Junction in the Patna Kotwali police station area, resulting in the deaths of eight people. According to police records, the deceased were identified as Rahul Kumar, Dinesh Singh, Chandrakala Kumari, Tej Pratap, Ritesh Kumar, Raj Laxmi Kisku, Priyanka Kumari, and Miloni Kisku.

The woman whose name was used to present the fake death certificate and attempt to claim the insurance money was not listed among the deceased in the Kotwali police station records or the fire department. According to reports, the accused, who is from Uttar Pradesh, had created the fake death certificate at the Patna Municipal Corporation office and tried to use it to claim from the American insurance company.

The fire brigade office also listed only those people as deceased who were on the police records. All the deceased had been identified, and their families had taken the bodies.

The man from Uttar Pradesh, who had created a fake death certificate for his mother to claim insurance, was not on the list of deceased. The fake death certificate listed the deceased woman as Suman Lal, but no woman by that name had died in the hotel fire.

Despite this, the accused, named Ankit, attempted to claim 8.3 million rupees from the American insurance company National Life Group using the fake death certificate. He falsely claimed that Suman Lal was his mother and that she had died in the hotel fire.

When the insurance company received the claim, they sent an officer to investigate. Upon arriving in Patna, the representative checked the list of deceased at the Kotwali police station, revealing the fraud. The name Suman Lal was not listed anywhere.

American insurance company officer Girish Nandan stated that the name mentioned in the death certificate was not found in the lists maintained by the police or fire brigade offices. Upon further investigation by their statistics department, the certificate was confirmed to be entirely fraudulent.
