Uttar Pradesh: A video showing a police officer dressed in civilian clothes brutally thrashing a man with his shoe in Uttar Pradesh has sparked outrage over police high-handedness.
The incident took place in Hardoi, located about 100 km from the state capital Lucknow.
The cop responsible for the assault has been identified as Dinesh.
In the video, he can be seen repeatedly hitting the man on his face and all over his body for about four minutes, totaling 38 blows.

In response to the disturbing footage, the officer has been suspended immediately.
According to the police, the man was allegedly intoxicated and causing trouble at a local shop. The cop, who was visiting the market in plain clothes, encountered the drunk man misbehaving with others, including the officer himself, leading to the violent confrontation.
Additional Superintendent of Police West, Durgesh Kumar Singh, commented on the viral video, stating that the police took prompt action after reviewing the footage. He affirmed that the constable responsible for the assault has been suspended with immediate effect.
It’s worth noting that earlier this week, during a review meeting, Additional Director General (ADG) Piyush Mordia instructed all officers to maintain fair and dignified behavior towards the public in their interactions.
