A Muslim cleric’s wife and two daughters were found murdered on mosque premises in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district. They were killed with a sharp-edged weapon, police said.
According to a PTI report, cleric Ibrahim’s wife Israna (30) and his two daughters Sofia (5) and Sumaiya (2) were found lying in a pool of blood at the residence located inside the mosque premises. Ibrahim is the Imam of the main mosque in Gangnauli village, Baghpat district.
Ibrahim had gone to Deoband for some work when the incident took place.
The bodies were spotted by some children who had gone to Ibrahim’s residence for daily lessons.
After receiving information, senior police officials rushed to the spot and sent the bodies for postmortem.
A few locals staged a protest demanding a speedy probe into the matter. Senior officials assured them and launched an investigation.
DRI cracks down on gold smuggling syndicate in Mumbai; gold worth Rs 12.58 crore seized, 13 arrested
In another incident, based on an intelligence developed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), during an operation code-named “Operation Golden Sweep”, foreign nationals, airport staffers and other members of an international gold smuggling syndicate were apprehended at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMI) Airport, Mumbai, and the DRI seized 10.488 kg of 24 karat foreign-origin gold, valued at approximately Rs 12.58 crore.
Through this operation, the DRI successfully dismantled a highly organised gold smuggling syndicate and arrested 13 persons, including two Bangladeshi nationals, six Sri Lankan Nationals, two airport staff members of a meet-and-greet service, two handlers, and the mastermind in Mumbai, according to an official release.
Investigations revealed that a transnational syndicate adopted a sophisticated modus operandi wherein transit passengers from Dubai to Singapore, Bangkok, and Dhaka via Mumbai acted as carriers, concealing gold in egg-shaped wax capsules inside their bodies.
