UP: Aligarh Muslim University teacher shot dead on campus during evening walk

An AMU teacher, Rao Danish Ali, was shot dead by unidentified attackers on the university campus in Aligarh during an evening walk.

A teacher at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was shot dead by unknown attackers inside the university campus in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday night, officials said. The incident took place near the Maulana Azad Library, raising serious concerns about campus safety.

The victim has been identified as Rao Danish Ali, a teacher at AMU’s ABK School. According to officials, he was shot in the head around 9 pm. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but doctors could not save him.

AMU Proctor Mohd. Wasim Ali said the university authorities were informed about the firing near the library area. 'We received information that a man had been shot near the library and taken to the medical college. He was later identified as Rao Danish Ali, a teacher at the ABK School. He was shot in the head and died during treatment,' he said.

Attack happened during evening walk, police probe underway

According to reports, Rao Danish Ali was on his regular evening walk with two colleagues. When they reached the canteen near the Maulana Azad Library, two men on a motorcycle arrived at the spot and opened fire. The attackers fled immediately after the shooting.

Police reached the scene soon after the incident. Ali was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The reason behind the killing is still not known, police said.

Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadon confirmed that the attack was carried out by two unidentified men. He said a detailed investigation has been launched and police teams are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify and track the attackers.

University officials are cooperating with the police as the investigation continues. More details are expected once the suspects are identified and questioned.
