Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan embarked on his inaugural visit to the Kashmir Valley today, focusing on security and preparedness in the region following significant snowfall. His visit included a high-level security review meeting at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), where he engaged with top officials to discuss pressing security concerns.
Accompanied by the Director of Intelligence Bureau (DIB), Mohan met with key officials including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat, and the General Officer Commanding of the Army’s 15 and 16 Corps. The discussions were centered around the current post-snowfall situation, the maintenance of essential services, and strategies to counter potential terrorist infiltration from across the Line of Control (LoC).
In a move to reinforce the central government’s commitment to safety in the Union Territory, Mohan visited the historic Clock Tower in Lal Chowk. His presence at this landmark highlighted the administration’s focus on ensuring security during challenging weather conditions.
During the meeting, Mohan emphasized a robust approach against terrorism, urging security agencies to work collaboratively towards achieving a ‘terror-free Jammu and Kashmir.’ He reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism, calling for decisive action against terrorists and their supporters.
The Union Home Secretary commended the security forces for their coordinated efforts in combating terrorism and stressed the importance of implementing the “Area Domination Plan” and “Zero Terror Plan” effectively. Discussions also included enhancing counter-infiltration measures along the LoC and preparations for ensuring a peaceful Republic Day celebration.
Sources revealed that the meeting, which extended into the evening, covered various strategies to strengthen anti-terror operations and address infiltration threats. The officials briefed Mohan on the progress made in reinforcing the counter-infiltration grid and improving inter-agency coordination.
Earlier this month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had convened a high-level security meeting in New Delhi, reiterating the government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. He praised the significant decline in terrorist incidents and recruitment efforts, underscoring that all resources would be mobilized to achieve peace and stability in the region.
As Kashmir enters its peak winter season, Mohan’s visit aims to reassure people and stakeholders of the government’s proactive approach to maintaining order and enhancing the quality of life in Jammu and Kashmir.
