On Friday, January 24, 2025, Uber announced that it will offer unlimited free air-conditioned bus rides on its Uber Shuttle service for commuters traveling between Delhi and Gurugram until February 1. This initiative aims to encourage more people to use the service.
Commuters can book their seats in advance, up to a week ahead, through the Uber app. The app allows users to track the bus’s live location and route, as well as provide an estimated time of arrival (ETA) for each journey. To ensure a comfortable experience, Uber has stated that no standing passengers will be allowed on the buses.
For safety, Uber will provide 24/7 support, including a dedicated safety line that can be accessed within 30 seconds. The company received a license to operate buses in Delhi under the Delhi Premium Bus Scheme in May 2024. Since launching the Shuttle service last year, Uber has reported positive feedback from users.
Amit Deshpande, Head of Uber Shuttle in India, mentioned that their goal is to reduce traffic congestion and emissions by encouraging more people to travel in fewer vehicles. He expressed hope that offering free rides would help commuters discover the benefits of using Uber Shuttle, which is designed to be affordable, convenient, and hassle-free.
Additionally, in response to concerns about fare differences between Android and iOS users, Uber clarified that it does not set prices based on phone manufacturers and is willing to work with the Central Consumer Protection Authority to resolve any misunderstandings.
