Drivers Died By Electrocuted In Mangaluru

In the past 24 hours, rain-related fatalities in Mangaluru rose to six, with two auto drivers electrocuted by a live wire hanging from a pole, according to police reports to PTI on Thursday.

Raju Gowda, aged 50, from Alluru in Hassan district, and Devraj Gowda, aged 46, from Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district, tragically passed away in the incident. According to PTI, the incident occurred around 9 pm on Wednesday.

An electric pole collapsed near Rosario Church, where one of the victims inadvertently stepped on a live wire outside their residence. Upon hearing their cries for help, the other victim rushed outside to assist and tragically suffered electrocution.

On Wednesday, rain caused the death of four members of a family. The compound wall of a neighboring property collapsed on them in Kuttaru Madaninagar village.

The police have filed a case regarding this incident. The incident occurred at 6:30 am, with the compound wall deteriorating due to heavy rainfall overnight on Tuesday.

According to the India Meteorological Department, Mangaluru received rainfall measuring 152.9 mm in the past 24 hours.

Honnavar and Shirali in Uttara Kannada district experienced rainfall of 75.5 mm and 66.8 mm respectively.

According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is expected in isolated areas of Dakshina Kannada and Shivamogga districts on Thursday.

The Dakshina Kannada district administration declared a school holiday on Thursday.

Heavy rain triggered landslides in Kodagu, thereby significantly disrupting normal life in the district.

Officials informed PTI that in Mandya district, the inflow into the Krishna Raja Sagar dam has risen. Sources from the irrigation department reported that the internal flow of the dam has exceeded 3,800 cusecs, with the water level reaching 88 feet, approaching its capacity of 114 feet.
