Bengaluru: A Bengaluru court on Monday directed Twitter to temporarily block the handles of the Congress and its Bharat Jodo Yatra campaign for allegedly infringing copyright norms.

The court action came following a complaint filed by MRT Music, a Bengaluru-based music label, which accused the Congress of illegally ‘using sound records of film KGF-Chapter 2’.

According to the information, this ban has been imposed temporarily. In the complaint against the Congress, the makers of KGF had alleged that the Congress used songs from their film in the marketing videos prepared for the Bharat Jodo Yatra. (Jordan-anwar)

In the present case, the petitioner, while giving a CD in the court, had alleged that the original version had been used with some minor changes and no permission was taken from them nor were they informed about it.

The court ruled that prima facie materials established that if the alleged illegal use of sound records was encouraged, the plaintiff would suffer an irreparable injury and the same would also lead to encouraging piracy at large, reports Bar and Bench.

The court directed Twitter to take down three links from the two handles and further ordered it to block the twitter handles of Congress and Bharat Jodo Yatra.
