A major step is being taken towards improving the transport system in Uttar Pradesh with the construction of Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway, which will give a new direction to the infrastructure of the state. This 700 km long Greenfield project will directly connect eastern and western Uttar Pradesh.
The expressway will be six lanes and on its completion, the journey from Gorakhpur to Shamli can be completed in just six hours, which currently takes around 12 hours.
The Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway will pass through 37 tehsils and 22 districts, including Sant Kabir Nagar, Siddharth Nagar, Balrampur, Bahraich, Sitapur, Lucknow, Hardoi, Bijnor, Amroha, Saharanpur, Agra, Muzaffarnagar, Shahjahanpur, Badaun, Rampur, Moradabad, Bareilly, Sambhal, Meerut and Shamli.
The project will create new employment opportunities in the construction phase and thereafter. Once the expressway is built, it will become much easier for the people of Purvanchal to travel to popular tourist destinations like Mussoorie, Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh.
The project will be completely based on greenfield technology and solar energy, which will reduce the distance between Gorakhpur and Shamli by about 200 km. According to media reports, drone survey of the route is likely to start this month.
Once the expressway is constructed and open to public, the journey from Gorakhpur to Haridwar will be covered in just eight hours. This will boost tourism sector of the state.
