Rescue efforts and work on the restoration of the tracks continued overnight hours after tragedy struck near Raghunathpur station in Buxar district. 21 coaches of the North East Express train derailed near Raghunath station on Wednesday night. Consequently, four people were killed and around seventy were injured.
Subsequently, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav dropped a post on the microblogging platform X to inform that measures are being taken to alleviate the situation. He articulated, “Rescue operation going on at war footing at Buxar derailment site.”

After the accident, two trains were cancelled while many others were diverted from their routes. According to the official statement by the Eastern Central Railway zone, the trains that have been cancelled include Kashi Patna Jan Shatabdi Express and Patna Kashi Jan Shatabdi Express.
The Chief PRO of Northern Railway informed that helpline numbers were opened to facilitate distressed passengers. On Thursday CM of Meghalaya said that his government was monitoring the situation. For any information citizens of Meghalaya can reach out to the state authorities. Further, he informed us about the helpline number- 1800345364- for the passengers.
The general manager of East Central Railways (ECR), Tarun Prakash said, “Four fatalities have been confirmed and rescue operations are underway. A total of 21 coaches derailed, reported ANI.
He further added that an inquiry would be conducted on what led coaches to jump rails.
