In one distressing incident, four girls tragically drowned while bathing in a pond located in the Pachamba police station area of Giridih district on Tuesday morning.
A senior police officer confirmed the incident and noted that one girl who accompanied them was rescued. Giridih Superintendent of Police, Deepak Kumar Sharma, explained that the five girls, all under the age of 15, had gone to the pond to bathe as part of a ritual for Karma Puja. However, they ventured into deeper waters, resulting in the unfortunate drowning of four of them while one was saved from the perilous situation.
Giridih Deputy Commissioner Naman Priyesh Lakra expressed condolences, stating that the bodies would undergo post-mortem examinations, and a compensation of Rs 4 lakh would be provided to the families of the deceased by the disaster management department.

Meanwhile, in another incident, three girls aged between 10 and 15 met a similar fate as they drowned while bathing in a river in Sahebganj district. The incident unfolded in Kherwa village, Barhait police station area, on Monday afternoon when the three girls ventured too far into the Gumani River and drowned. Barhait police station in-charge, Gaurav Kumar, identified the victims as Mantasa Parween (10), Seema Khatun (11), and Siman Khatun (15). These girls had come to the village to attend a wedding.
Rescue efforts by villagers resulted in the recovery of the bodies, which were subsequently sent for post-mortem examinations, further underscoring the tragic loss of these young lives.
