As the country reels from the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old woman PG trainee doctor in Kolkata, Uttarakhand police have apprehended a suspect in the alleged rape and murder of a 33-year-old nurse who had been missing since July 30 in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar district.
Victim’s Background and Discovery of Body
The deceased, who was from Islamnagar in Gadarpur, worked as a nurse at a private hospital in Nainital, Uttarakhand. She lived with her 11-year-old daughter in Bilaspur Colony. After her sister filed a missing person’s report on July 31, police launched an investigation, which led to the discovery of her body over a week later in an empty plot in Dibdiba, Uttar Pradesh. The body was subsequently sent for post-mortem examination.
Accused Raped, Killed, and Robbed the Nurse
The suspect, identified as Dharmendra, a labourer from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Reports indicate that Dharmendra lured the nurse into the bushes, where he raped her, strangled her to death, and then fled after stealing her jewellery.

How Police Tracked Down the Accused
Police identified the suspect by reviewing CCTV footage, which captured the victim’s last known movements in a tempo from Indra Chowk in Rudrapur. Tracing the location of the nurse’s stolen mobile phone, they were led to Dharmendra. During interrogation, Dharmendra confessed to attacking the nurse with the intent to rob her, taking her to a vacant plot where he raped and murdered her, before fleeing with her money and jewellery.
