On Sunday night, an IndiGo Airlines flight traveling from Mumbai to Varanasi needed to make an emergency landing at Chikalthana Airport in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra due to the death of an 89-year-old passenger during the flight.
Passenger From Mirzapur Fell Unconscious Mid-Flight
The passenger, Sushila Devi from Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, began to show signs of being unwell during the flight to Varanasi. The flight made an emergency landing at Chikalthana Airport around 10 pm on Saturday.
Passenger Declared Dead By Medical Team Upon Landing
By the time the medical team arrived and checked the woman upon landing, she had already passed away, PTI reported, citing an airport authority. Following the completion of necessary procedures by the MIDC CIDCO police station, the flight later departed for its original destination, Varanasi.
Body Sent To Government Hospital For Further Examination
The body of the deceased woman was sent by IndiGo to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for examination.
Earlier Emergency Landing In March Due To Tyre Burst
In a separate incident in March, a Jaipur-to-Chennai flight suffered a tyre burst before landing. The aircraft made an emergency landing in Chennai after the pilot indicated the issue. Authorities stated, “Before landing, the pilot indicated that he had a tyre burst and control of flight was provided. Authority acted in accordance with policy for flight landing.”
Aircraft Wheel Found Damaged Upon Inspection
After the landing, a visual inspection revealed that aircraft wheel no. 2 was damaged and parts of the left interior tyre were coming off, officials added.
