New Delhi: Top wrestlers from the country are on streets of Delhi. Many wrestlers, including Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Commonwealth champion Vinesh Phogat, are protesting against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Female wrestlers have accused him of sexual harassment. All of them were also sitting on dharna against Brijbhushan Sharan Singh earlier this year.

Protest against Brij Bhushan Singh

Wrestlers’ protest against Brij Bhushan Singh is going on at Jantar Mantar since Sunday afternoon. Seven women wrestlers have also filed a complaint against Singh at the Parliament Street police station. The wrestler has sought support from all the countrymen. Bajrang Punia has said that this time, all parties are welcome to join our protest whether it is BJP, Congress, AAP or any other party…we are not affiliated to any party.

Wrestlers said, “It’s been 3 months, but we haven’t got justice, that’s why we are protesting again. We demand justice, FIR has not been registered yet. Earlier, we were told to file an FIR, now we are going to file an FIR, so the police are not listening.

Wrestler Sakshi Malik, who said an FIR is yet to be registered based on the complaint, said she was disappointed that the report of a government panel on the issue had not yet been made public. “We want the report, in which statements of women wrestlers have been recorded, to be made public. It is a sensitive issue, one of the complainants is a minor girl.” She said that the names of the complainants should not be leaked.

Vinesh Phogat said that despite repeated attempts, she is not getting any response from the government. “We are going to sleep and eat here till we get justice. Phogat tweeted sharing a picture of the wrestlers sleeping on the pavement.

Wrestlers said that we are getting threats from many sides. We waited for more than 3 months. Nothing happened. After this, we tried to lodge a complaint in the police station, but the police officials did not listen to us. We don’t know what is happening here. We will resume our protest and sit. We are on strike at Jantar Mantar till our demands are met.

A Shift Towards BJP's Aggressive Hindutva Amid Opposition's Leadership Crisis

The Maharashtra election may further push the Congress down as it has lost the election at a time when it needed a win most desperately. Though the Congress succeeded in pushing the BJP to a corner and stopping it at less than a majority on its own, it failed to make any headway further.
