Gujarat: A one-and-a-half-year-old girl died after falling into a 50-feet deep well in Surajpura village of Gujarat’s Amreli district, officials said on Saturday. The toddler was pulled out of the mine at 5:10 am on Saturday after a 17-hour rescue operation.

“The child was pulled out of the well at 5.10 am and taken to Amreli Civil Hospital where she was declared dead,” HC Gadhvi fire officer said on Saturday.

Amreli fire chief HC Gadhvi said that after being pulled out of the borewell, the child was taken to the civil hospital where doctors declared her dead.

He said the local fire brigade started a rescue operation immediately after receiving information about the incident, adding that the NDRF team from Gandhinagar joined the exercise later.

An NDRF team from Gandhinagar reached the spot at 10.20 pm on Friday and started the operation, the agency said.

The 108 ambulance team administered oxygen to the girl to sustain her, despite her showing no signs of movement during the initial phase of the rescue operation, Gadhvi reported.

After a toddler fell into a 45-50 feet deep well in Gujarat’s Amreli, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Praful Pansheriya asked the people of the state to inform the government about open wells.

Speaking to ANI, Pansheriya said, “I request everyone in Gujarat if you can’t close the well, let us know. If you can’t, send us a message or send us a letter… I am going to work for humanity, ” added the minister
