New Delhi: Newly-appointed Deputy Chief Minster of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar Sunday asserted that the group of MLAs who extended support to him in the decision of joining Shinde-Fadnavis government, will be contesting further elections in the name of NCP only.

“Several people will criticise now a bit. We do not give value to that and we will keep working for the progress of Maharashtra and that is why we have taken this decision. Most of our MLAs are satisfied with this. We have supported this government with NCP Party. We will contest all elections in the name of NCP only,” said the newly-appointed Deputy CM Ajit Pawar.

Further, Pawar hinted at support of more MLAs and said, “Some MLAs could not be contacted as they are out of country but I spoke to all of them and they agreed with our decision.”

Sharad Pawar’s support?

On being asked if he had support of NCP cheif Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar said that, ‘I’m telling you, I spoke to him on call. We have the support of every party leader.”

If MLAs in Nagaland can join then why can’t us?: Ajit Pawar

NCP leader Pawar also reffered to the event that took place in Nagaland where a group of MLAs decided to go with the saffron party and said, “Previously NCP got 7 MLAs in Nagaland and all MLAs went with BJP on the party’s decision.”

He said, “If we can go with BJP in Nagaland then why cannot we go with BJP here also. We will do everything for the betterment of Maharashtra.”

Portfolio to be distributed soon

After taking oath as deputy CM, Pawar said, “Today, we have decided to support the Maharashtra government and took oath as ministers. There will be a discussion on the portfolios later. Considering all aspects at the national level, we thought that we should support development.”
