New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi on Thursday said the party will explore all the options that the law offers, in the 2019 defamation case against Rahul Gandhi.
He said primarily, the party has an option to approach the High Court after the Sessions Court on Thursday dismissed former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s plea challenging a verdict of the lower court that found him guilty in the “Modi Surname” defamation case.
Congress leader Singhvi told media that there are two verdicts pronounced by the lower court. He said both were given by “wrong reasons based upon wrong laws” and Congress will challenge them in higher court.
He added that as far as Rahul Gandhi’s nature is concerned, everyone knows in which context the statement was made, which was later manipulated and portrayed as something else.

Earlier on Thursday, the Sessions Court in Gujarat’s Surat rejected the plea moved by Rahul Gandhi seeking stay on a verdict given by a lower court that convicted him in the matter.
In the latest, the Sessions Court upheld the conviction, which earlier resulted in disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Parliament.
“And those who are talking about insulting the OBCs are now having the opposite effect. OBC class has also understood that Modi ji and BJP are misusing their name politically,” added Singhvi.
His statement came in response to a dig by several leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who alleged that Rahul Gandhi has insulted the people of OBC community and he has no respect towards them.
