Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee was suspended from the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Tuesday after he smashed a glass bottle and injured himself during a heated argument with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and former Calcutta High Court judge, Abhijit Ganguly. The incident occurred during a meeting on the Waqf Amendment Bill.

Heated Exchange Leads to Bottle-Smashing Incident
According to reports, the argument between Banerjee and Ganguly escalated during the session. In a moment of anger, Banerjee broke the water bottle on his desk, causing injuries to his thumb and index finger. He also reportedly attempted to throw the broken bottle towards the chairman’s desk.

Banerjee Taken for Medical Aid
Banerjee was immediately taken for medical assistance, where he received four stitches in his hand. A video later showed him being escorted back to the meeting room by AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh. He was also offered soup by officials while another image captured the broken pieces of the bottle.

Committee Meeting and Possible Suspension
The meeting, chaired by BJP’s Jagdambika Pal, was discussing the Waqf Bill when opposition members questioned the involvement of a group of retired judges and lawyers in the matter. Following the incident, sources suggest that Kalyan Banerjee may face suspension from the committee for his actions.
