A terrorist was killed as special forces were deployed to eliminate a group of recently infiltrated militants who had attacked an army convoy in a village located in the Akhnoor sector. Following the attack around 7 a.m., security forces promptly cordoned off the area, launching a counter-operation that is still ongoing. Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the site. Rising Security Concerns Amid Festival Season
This incident comes amid heightened security arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir for the Diwali festival season, but recent violent incidents have added to the concerns. Over the past week, 12 people, including two soldiers, have lost their lives in multiple gunfights across the region, especially in the Kashmir Valley.

Recent Surge in Terrorist Attacks
- October 24: Terrorists ambushed an Army vehicle near Gulmarg in Baramulla, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and two porters. Additionally, a young boy from Uttar Pradesh was injured in Tral on the same day, marking a third assault on migrant workers within a week.
- October 20: Seven people, including a doctor and six migrant workers, were killed at a construction site in Sonamarg, Ganderbal district. Days before this, another migrant worker from Bihar was also attacked, increasing concerns about targeted violence.
High-Level Security Review Amid Intelligence Gaps
Following these incidents, a high-level security review was conducted on October 24 at the Lieutenant Governor’s office. Preliminary investigations have revealed intelligence gaps and potential undetected infiltrations over the past year along the Line of Control (LoC). Security officials are now focusing on closing these gaps to prevent further incidents.
As security forces remain vigilant during the festive season, the recent incidents highlight the need for reinforced counter-insurgency measures to ensure civilian and military safety across the region.
