Three individuals hailing from Rajasthan have been apprehended by law enforcement for allegedly perpetrating a fraudulent act involving a creating a Facebook account bearing the name of the Nagpur police commissioner. The incident resulted in a financial loss of Rs 24,000 for the victim, said the police on Saturday.
A dedicated team from the Nagpur police successfully tracked down and detained the suspects within the Alwar district of Rajasthan on Friday, subsequently transporting them to Nagpur for further investigation, as stated by an official source.
According to law enforcement, the suspects forged a Facebook account under the identity of Nagpur police commissioner Amitesh Kumar and proceeded to send a friend request to the complainant. Assuming as a CRPF officer, they initiated a conversation with the victim, enticing him with the promise of purchasing household appliances at discounted rates, the official explained.

The complainant, swayed by the offer, agreed to procure these appliances for the sum of Rs 24,000, transferring the stipulated amount to the perpetrators. Regrettably, the appliances were never dispatched, and attempts to contact the accused proved futile, leaving the victim defrauded.
Subsequently, authorities registered a case against the suspects under Section 420 (pertaining to cheating) and other pertinent provisions of the Indian Penal Code and IT Act, as confirmed by the official. Following their apprehension, police have frozen Rs 1.23 lakh found in the trio’s bank account and confiscated four mobile phones along with bearer cheques.
The individuals involved have been identified as Surendra Pritam Singh (28), Taufik Khan Fateh Nasib Khan (25), and Sampatram Shribansilal Prajapati (33), all of whom are residents of Alwar, said the official.
