The previous week, over 150 schools in Delhi-NCR and one in Lucknow received bomb threat emails, leading to large-scale evacuations. However, the police later confirmed that the emails were hoaxes.

Sources revealed that preliminary investigations indicated the IP address used to send the threatening emails to over 150 schools in Delhi-NCR originated from Russia. However, Delhi Police suspected that the IP address might have been masked through a VPN.

A police officer stated that the threatening emails were sent from the email ID ‘sawariim@mail.ru’. The term “Sawarim” is commonly used by the terror group Islamic State (IS) in their propaganda videos over the past several years, according to the official.

The email sent to the schools in Delhi contained the message: “Kill them wherever you meet and drive them out of the places from which they drove you. There are many explosive devices in the school…,” as stated by the officer. Additionally, the email included “aayate (verses) of the holy Quran.”
