Thane Metro Update- Trial run on metro lines 4 And 4a completed; How will it benefit commuters?

The Thane Metro line is set to benefit thousands of daily commuters, especially students and those commuting every day to office and work area by providing faster and economical transport options.

Thane Metro Update- The first trial run of Thane Metro Line 4 and 4A was successfully conducted on a 10-kilometre stretch between Cadbury Junction and Kasarvadavali in Thane on Monday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis along with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik inspected the test run. The project is expected to reduce travel time across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Announcing the successful completion of the trials, CM Fadnavis wrote on X, “The testing of the first phase of Metro Route-4 and 4-A is happening today. It is expected that 13 to 14 lakh commuters will travel on it daily. Under the leadership of Hon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji, the construction of the metro in Maharashtra, which we had initiated, has gained significant momentum.”

How will it benefit commuters?

The Mumbai Metro Line 4 between Wadala – Kasarvadavali is 32.32 km long elevated corridor with 30 stations. It will provide interconnectivity among the existing Eastern Express Roadway, Central Railway, Mono Rail, the ongoing Metro Line 2B (D N Nagar to Mandale), Metro Line 5 (Thane to Kalyan), Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli).

According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), “the metro line will provide rail based access to the commercial, Government bodies and geographical landmarks in Mumbai.” Once open for public, the metro line will reduce travel time by anything between 50% and 75%.

Mumbai Metro Route 4A (Kasarvadavali – Gaimukh)
The Metro Line 4A from Kasarvadavali to Gaymukh is a 2.7 km long elevated line with 2 stations. It is an extension of Mumbai Metro Line 4 (Wadala – Ghatkopar – Mulund – Thane – Kasarvadavali) towards Kasarvadavali. This route will reduce current travel times by 50% to 75%.

Maharashtra CM Fadnavis informed that the administration aims to complete this route of the Metro line by the end of 2026.

“We are testing the first phase of Metro 4 and Metro 4A. This was built at a cost of Rs 16,000 crore and nearly 13-14 lakh passengers are expected to travel in this daily… A huge depot is being prepared at Mogharpada. This line will join Metro line 11 in Wadala, which will go further to CSTM. We are preparing country’s biggest route of 58 Kms. Thane’s metro line, which was halted during Mahavikas Aghadi, was paced up by Eknath Shinde as CM and he also resolved all sorts of obstacles. All phases will be completed by 2026-27,” CM Fadnavis stated.
