Andhra Pradesh: There was a tense and dramatic incident outside the camp office of Andhra Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan in Vijayawada on Tuesday, where a woman tried to attempt suicide. Identified as Durga Devi from Rajahmundry, she climbed an abandoned building near the office premises in an effort to draw attention to her plight.

Durga Devi alleges that leaders from the YSRCP party illegally seized her 1200-yard land in Rajam, Srikakulam district. Despite multiple complaints to authorities, she claims no action has been taken. Feeling desperate after unsuccessful attempts to meet with Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, Durga Devi and her husband had approached Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu the previous day. Frustrated and uncertain about their next steps, they expressed their intention to file a complaint with Pawan Kalyan.

Police intervened swiftly as soon as they detected Durga Devi’s presence on the building. They safely brought her down and took her into custody, preventing the potentially tragic outcome of her suicide attempt. The incident caused a stir at the camp office, highlighting tensions over unresolved grievances and allegations of land-grabbing involving YSRCP leaders.

This incident coincides with broader controversies surrounding alleged land-grabbing by YSRCP leaders, recently exemplified by the demolition of the YSRCP party office in Guntur district and notices issued to other party offices in Visakhapatnam. The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has been vocal about these issues, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice in such cases throughout the state.

An investigation is underway to understand the circumstances that led to Durga Devi’s drastic action, underscoring the deep-seated frustrations and systemic challenges facing citizens seeking redressal for grievances in Andhra Pradesh.
