The cold wave has intensified across North India, bringing sharper chills to Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana. Rajasthan Freezes Under Icy Winds
The cold wave in Rajasthan remains strong, with Mount Abu recording zero degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Overnight dew turned into ice due to the freezing temperature. Morning sunshine brought slight comfort, but the chill in the hill regions continues. Several districts like Fatehpur, Nagaur, Sikar, and Dausa also experienced severe cold. The weather department says the state will stay dry for the next few days with no major temperature change, but a slight easing of the cold wave may bring some relief to people.
Snowfall Likely to Continue for 48 Hours Due to Western Disturbance
The Meteorological Department has forecast a major change in the weather in Uttarakhand over the next two to three days. The minimum temperature is expected to fall even further, and the mountains are likely to experience a strong wave of winter. Higher regions may see a sharp drop in temperature, leading to intense cold in many areas.
According to the State Meteorological Department, the weather began to change late Tuesday night across the state, causing temperatures to fall and making the cold more noticeable. As a result, both the Kedarnath and Badrinath temples received snowfall, and their premises were covered in a layer of snow.
This is the first snowfall at Kedarnath since the temple gates were closed for devotees on October 23. In Badrinath, the temperature also dipped after Tuesday night’s snowfall. Since a good number of pilgrims are still visiting the shrine—which will close on November 25—the Nagar Panchayat has arranged bonfires to help keep them warm.
Devotees at the temple said the weather began changing with light snowfall on Tuesday evening. The Meteorological Department has predicted that snowfall and rain will continue in the Himalayan areas, including Uttarakhand, for the next 48 hours due to a western disturbance. An alert has also been issued for pilgrims traveling to Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, and other high-altitude locations in Chamoli district.
Rain Alert in South India
In the last 24 hours, several parts of South India experienced rainfall. Kerala and Tamil Nadu saw light to moderate showers, with some areas receiving heavy rain. Light to moderate rain also fell over Kerala, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the south Andhra Pradesh coast, and Lakshadweep. Meanwhile, the southern coast of Karnataka recorded scattered light rain.
