Telangana: Young Couple Dies By Suicide After Parents Reject Love Marriage

Their bodies have been sent to the Gajwel Government Hospital for post-mortem examination (PME). The police have registered a case, and further investigation is currently underway.

In a shocking incident, a young couple ended their lives after their parents refused for a love marriage between them. The incident has been reported from Siddipet district in Telangana. According to the police, the couple identified as Shiva and Kalpana, died by suicide on Tuesday, June 17. Reportedly, Kalpana’s parents had decided to arrange her marriage to her brother-in law. After learning this, Shiva hanged himself to death.

The tragedy didn’t stop there, as shortly after learning of Shiva’s death, Kalpana also died by suicide.

What Did Police Say?

ANI quoted Inspector of Gowraram police station, who stated, “Yesterday, two young lovers from the same village, Shiva and Kalpana from Avusalonipalli village in Wargal Mandal, Siddipet district, tragically committed suicide after their parents denied their love marriage. Both had completed their intermediate education," said the Inspector of Gowraram police station.

"Kalpana's parents had recently fixed her marriage with her brother-in-law, which led to the tragic events. Upon learning of the arranged marriage, Shiva hanged himself in his agricultural land. About an hour later, Kalpana also took her own life after learning of Shiva's death," the official added.

In another incident reported from Odisha, a 16-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by her father in an inebriated state, attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills. According to reports, the minor is in critical condition and is battling for her life at a hospital.

Police arrested the victim’s father on June 15, when the world was busy with Father’s Day celebrations. Reports stated that the incident took place last Wednesday (June 11) when the girl was at her home all by herself. Digapahandi Inspector-in-charge PK Patra said that the father allegedly raped her when her mother left the home for work. The man, who is a daily wager, had come home that day in an inebriated condition.
