Telangana: In a recent unusual case, a 36-year-old man was given a rather uncommon punishment by the LB Nagar Metropolitan Magistrate Court. He was reportedly ordered to clean the police station for two days after being found guilty of abusing a woman. The incident took place in Gurramguda, when a woman, identified as Sandhya, accused him of abusing her and causing disturbance during a quarrel.
Accused Ordered To Clean Police Station, Pay Fine
The event occurred within Meerpet Police Station limits in Telangana’s Rangareddy district. Following the incident, she filed a complaint with the police against Ramesh, the man in question. Police carried out a thorough investigation into the matter and booked him. He was later presented in the court, where the magistrate ordered him to clean the police station as a part of the Swachh Bharat mission. He was also asked to pay a monetary fine.
Incident Sparks Concern Regarding Safety Of Women
Inspector Nagaraju of Meerpet Police Station is handling the case. The incident has sparked outrage in the local community. This decision comes as a reminder to address such matters promptly. However, it also raises concerns regarding growing cases of harassment and public misconduct against women. It makes one think if such a minimal form of punishment will restore order and help in combating crime against females.
Is This Enough?
A common thing seen in most of the cases is that the accused usually seeks revenge in these types of cases where his ego gets hurt. In light of this, there is a need for stricter restorative forms of justice and impactful decisions and sentences by the court to instill a sense of fear in the criminals.
