The eagerly awaited swearing-in ceremony of Telangana’s Congress-led government faced a delay due to internal conflicts within the party. The scheduled event at Raj Bhavan, which intended to witness the oath-taking of Congress state chief A Revanth Reddy as CM along with other key ministers, including a deputy CM, encountered setbacks.
Leadership Disagreements Emerge
Amid the preparations, differences among senior leaders arose, compelling the party to postpone the event. Dissent against Revanth Reddy’s potential candidacy for CM surfaced from prominent figures such as Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Uttam Kumar Reddy, Sridhar Babu, and the Komatireddy brothers.
Decision Deferred to Party President
The final determination regarding the government’s formation and leadership was deferred to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and special observers. It was decided that the resolution would come after discussions in Delhi, as shared by reliable sources. AICC observers, DK Shivakumar and Manikrao Thakre, headed to Delhi to discuss the situation with the high command.
Clash Over Leadership
Potential disagreements emerged during the CLP meeting, pushing the action to Delhi. Despite the initial speculation suggesting Revanth Reddy as the chosen CM, most senior leaders denied such assertions.
Multiple Contenders, No Consensus
The turmoil exposed multiple contenders for the CM position, including Bhatti, Uttam Kumar Reddy, and Sridhar Babu. However, Revanth had garnered the majority support. Nevertheless, no agreement was reached on the deputy CM, speaker, deputy speaker, or Telangana PCC president positions.
Unsettled Agendas
Amidst the turmoil, discussions revolved around the appointment of a single deputy CM with significant responsibilities, if chosen, and the reluctance to endorse multiple deputy CMs. Moreover, no consensus was achieved on key positions, awaiting further deliberation. If Revanth assumes the CLP leadership, a senior leader is anticipated to become the PCC chief.
