A 45-year-old man has been arrested in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly raping a woman under the pretense of performing black magic. The accused, identified as Dinesh Chaurasia, was taken into custody after a case was registered at the Ramgarh Tal police station.
The incident came to light when the 42-year-old victim reported that Chaurasia had promised to resolve her domestic issues and illness through black magic. Desperate to find a solution to her problems, the woman invited Chaurasia to her home while she was alone.
Ramgarh Tal SHO Chitwan Kumar Singh informed news agency PTI that Chaurasia took advantage of the woman’s solitude. Upon arriving at her house, he drugged her and then raped her. After committing the crime, Chaurasia fled the scene, taking with him jewelry and other valuable items, leaving the woman unconscious.
When the victim regained consciousness, she immediately informed her husband about the ordeal. Her husband then filed a report at the police station on Thursday. Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested Chaurasia on Saturday.
During police interrogation, Chaurasia confessed to the crime. Further investigations revealed that Chaurasia had been involved in similar incidents in the past. Police are continuing to question him about his previous activities to gather more information.
The case has raised concerns about the exploitation of vulnerable individuals through superstitious practices. Authorities have urged the public to be cautious and report any suspicious activities involving black magic or other fraudulent practices.
The police have assured the victim and her family of full support and are committed to ensuring justice. The arrest of Chaurasia has brought a sense of relief to the local community, which hopes for stringent action against such crimes.
