‘Tamil Nadu’s Son Is Going To Become RS Chairman’: Amit Shah Backs CP Radhakrishnan In Tirunelveli Rally

Amit Shah appeared confident about the victory of CP Radhakrishnan, whom he referred to as Tamil Nadu’s son over the INDIA Bloc’s candidate, B. Sudershan Reddy.

Ahead of the Vice Presidential elections on September 9, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has send a strong message across political circles. Addressing a rally in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu on Friday, Shah stated that he had come before the public to let them know that NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan is going to become the next Vice President. His statement comes at a time when the NDA is seeking support for its vice presidential candidate from opposition parties as well.

What Did Amit Shah Say?

Amit Shah appeared confident about the victory of CP Radhakrishnan, whom he referred to as Tamil Nadu’s son over the INDIA Bloc’s candidate, B. Sudershan Reddy. Speaking at the rally, he said, “I have come to tell the people of the state that after assuming the post of Vice President, Tamil Nadu’s son CP Radhakrishnan is going to become the Chairman of Rajya Sabha.”

Shah added that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always respected the Tamil language, culture and worked to promote the state. “Earlier, the NDA had also given this honour to APJ Abdul Kalam ji by making him the President of India. Narendra Modi ji has always worked to glorify Tamil Nadu, Tamil language and Tamil culture,” Shah stated.

While Shah rallied support for Radhakrishnan in Tamil Nadu, NCP SCP chief Sharad Pawar in Maharashtra declared that his party won’t support the NDA candidate.

“Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis urged us to support the NDA’s VP candidate, CP Radhakrishnan, as he is the Governor of Maharashtra. It is not possible as he does not align with our ideology. Also, CP Radhakrishnan was the Governor of Jharkhand. Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren was arrested during his visit to the Raj Bhavan by central agencies. CM requested that he should not be arrested in Raj Bhavan. He will come out and surrender. But his request was not considered. This is how the power was misused. Thus, we cannot support those who do not believe in democracy,” Pawar said.

Who Is C.P. Radhakrishnan?

Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan is currently serving as the Governor of Maharashtra. He has also served Jharkhand in a similar capacity and held additional charge as Governor of Telangana from February 2023 to July 2024. Radhakrishnan had earlier been the BJP’s Tamil Nadu state president from 2004 to 2007. He was also the party’s Kerala in-charge from 2020 to 2022.

Born on May 4, 1957, in Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Starting as an RSS Swayamsevak, he became a State Executive Committee Member of the Bharatiya Janasangh in 1974.

The announcement of the vice-presidential election was made after the sudden resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, who stepped down from his post on July 21 citing health reasons.
