The deceased, Dr Joshua Samraj, a postgraduate medical student from Salem who was employed in Madurai, was said to have been encountering financial difficulties, the police added.

The body was found in a forest region of Poomparai after villagers observed the car in the same place for three days and informed the authorities.

Police confirmed that the 29-year-old had administered IV fluids to himself within the car, which was an indication of probable suicide.

A suicide note was found in his vehicle, but did not refer to anyone or provide a motive for what he had done.

His parents subsequently informed police that he had been depressed because of personal relationship problems.

The police have lodged the case and taken the body for a post-mortem. The actual cause of death will be ascertained after the autopsy report, they added.

The suicide note that was found in the car revealed that the doctor had apologized to his family in the suicide note, but he had neither blamed anyone nor given a reason. He was depressed because of an issue in a relationship,” said his family.

Investigations also indicated that Dr Samraj was said to be in debt, although no details have been verified yet on what led to it. Following speculations on social media that the doctor lost money from online gaming, the police clarified, “We have not found any such detail in his suicide note, nor do his parents say so. We are investigating.”

Early reports indicate that the doctor could have given himself intravenous fluids in the car. But the police are adamant that only a post-mortem would reveal the actual cause of death. A case has been registered.

The incident once again brought the question of mental health issues among young professionals, especially in the medical community, to the fore.
