Tamil Nadu: In Ariyalur district, a 60-year-old woman, Viruthambal, has been arrested for allegedly killing her 15-month-old granddaughter, Krithika. The incident reportedly stemmed from Viruthambal’s suspicion that the child was born from an illicit affair involving her daughter-in-law, Sandhya.
Viruthambal’s son, Raja, was working abroad when Sandhya was pregnant with Krithika. During Raja’s absence, Viruthambal allegedly accused Sandhya of infidelity, claiming the child was not Raja’s.

On Friday, Sandhya left her two children at home to visit a nearby milk booth. Upon her return, she discovered Krithika unconscious. The child was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Following Sandhya’s complaint, Tamil Nadu Police detained Viruthambal. After prolonged interrogation, Viruthambal confessed to killing Krithika. She claimed that the child had thrown sand over her brother while playing.
In a fit of rage, Viruthambal force-fed sand to the toddler, which led to the child’s death.
