The India Meteorological Department (IMD) declared an Orange Alert for four districts on thursday. The weather in Tamil Nadu is predicted to be unpredictable today, with the northern coastal areas of the state experiencing especially difficult circumstances. The meteorological agency predicts mild to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
Heavy rainfall in THESE districts today
Flood situation and traffic have worsened over the past few days as Chennai and several nearby districts have experienced continuous rainfall, leading to flooded roads and waterlogged neighbourhoods. In several areas of the city and beyond, traffic flow has also been impacted. Additionally, the districts of Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, and Ramanathapuram are under a heavy rainfall alert from the IMD. The wet spell is predicted to last till December 5.
Light rainfall expected from today
There will probably be sporadic showers throughout the state. Rainfall is predicted to lessen to light/moderate intensity on Friday, providing a break for Chennai, which has been battered by it since the beginning of the week. The cyclone’s remnant weakened into a low-pressure region over north Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, and by Thursday morning, it had lost much more intensity, according to the RMC.
As the weather system fades and moves inland, clearer skies and sunny spells are expected starting on Friday. Saturday and Sunday are predicted to be mostly cloudy to partly sunny, with very little risk of light rain or drizzle as the weather system completely fades.
Along with Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpet all experienced heavy rains on Wednesday as cloud convergence continued over the area. This occurred on Wednesday morning as the depression over the Bay of Bengal diminished into a clearly defined low-pressure region and made landfall close to Puducherry. Central and South Chennai saw moderate rainfall with sporadic breaks, while Tiruvallur and North Chennai saw the most rain.
