At least 36 people, including 8 children and 16 women, lost their lives following a stampede-like incident during a rally held by TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam) chief and actor Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday. The Actor expressed his grief over the jeopardy that ensued and stated that my heart is shattered with grief.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the tragic event in Karur as well. In a post on X, he stated, “The unfortunate incident during a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. Wishing strength to them in this difficult time. Praying for a swift recovery to all those injured.” Recently, teh actor Vijay has showcased grief in a post on X

“My heart is shattered; I am writhing in unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow that words cannot express. I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of my dear brothers and sisters who lost their lives in Karur. I pray for the swift recovery of those receiving treatment in the hospital”
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin assured that all hospitalized victims of the Karur stampede will receive top medical care, sending key ministers and district collectors with medical teams to assist. He announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh for families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for those in intensive care. Stalin also ordered a Commission of Inquiry, led by retired judge Aruna Jagadeesan, to investigate the tragedy. Actor and TVK chief Vijay expressed deep grief and plans to personally visit the victims’ families and hospitalized individuals.
