The Tamil Nadu government is also facing criticism from opposition leaders regarding the matter. Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai accused the DMK of providing compensation to the accused Amavasai.
Annamalai tweeted that the accused in the Amavasai Chengapattu bootlegging case is the brother of a DMK office-bearer in Chithmoor’s Chengalpattu district. Amavasai pretended to drink illicit liquor, due to which she was admitted to the hospital, and the DMK government, like other victims, has also given Rs 50,000 to the accused Amavasai.
In addition, the Tamil Maanila Congress has decided to launch a campaign against the sale of illicit liquor in Chennai on May 20. The party condemned the sale of spurious liquor and said they would also launch a statewide campaign on May 22.
