A teacher was arrested for allegedly misbehaving and harassing girl students in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, said police, adding that he was booked on charges of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
Police said the suspect has been identified as Rajan, a resident of Vadavalli in Coimbatore. He is employed with a government school. It was alleged that he allegedly touched girls while teaching painting and during the yoga classes.
Following the allegations, the school administration conducted an internal investigation and later filed a formal complaint with the women’s police station. The suspect was arrested, said police, adding that further investigation is underway.
Recently, a college professor was also arrested in the Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu for allegedly sexually harassing a girl, a first-year student.
The police confirmed that the accused was produced before the Villupuram POCSO court and remanded to judicial custody for 15 days. Reportedly, the professor’s behavior had been ongoing since September 2024, and there were over 1,000 students on his list at the government-run arts college in Tindivanam.
His arrest followed a complaint from the concerned student’s parent. Based on this complaint, an FIR was registered against the professor under the POCSO Act.
