A shocking and disturbing case of ragging has come to light from Madurai in Tamil Nadu, where a student was allegedly stripped naked and beaten by some students. The case has been reported from Industrial Training Institute (ITI) College hostel in Thirumangalam. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing a group of students forcibly removing the boy’s clothes, taunting him, and even hitting him with a slipper on his private parts. The police have registered a case against three minors after identifying them through the video.
The incident came to notice after his parents filed a complaint with the authorities. Reportedly, the hostel warden has been suspended by the authorities following the incident. An investigation into the case to determine how the incident happened and how was it recorded is underway.
Another incident
In another incident, a first-year engineering student died allegedly by suicide in his hostel under Medipally police station limits in Medchal-Malkajgiri district of Telangana, police said on Monday. According to officials, the student died by hanging himself after recording a video claiming that his seniors were torturing him and demanding money. A police official said, “We have registered a case and are investigating the matter. More details will be provided later.”
Earlier in February, 2025, five third-year students of Government College of Nursing in Kerala’s Kottayam were arrested after a group of freshers alleged ragging and reported acts of cruelty. This included being stripped and having dumbbells tied to their private parts.
