Tamil Nadu: In a deeply disturbing incident that sent chills across Tamil Nadu, a 32-year-old man allegedly stabbed his wife to death at a working women’s hostel in Coimbatore. According to reports, he killed his estranged wife near Gandhipuram on Sunday morning over an extramarital affair. Shockingly, he later clicked and posted a selfie with the victim’s body on WhatsApp with the caption ‘payment for betrayal is death’.
Wife moved to Coimbatore, left husband with children
The accused, identified as S Balamurugan, a native of Tirunelveli, was arrested on murder charges. It has been learnt that his wife, Sri Priya (30), left him four months ago. She reportedly moved to Coimbatore, where she worked in a bag retail shop, located on Cross Cut Road. Their 10-year-old son and three-year-old daughter were looked after by Balamurugan in Tirunelveli.
“Priya, who was staying in a working woman’s hostel on Raja Naidu Street, developed an extramarital relationship with Balamurugan’s distant relative Isakki Raja, who was married with three children. On Saturday, Balamurugan met Priya in Coimbatore, asking her to end the relationship with Raja and reunite with him to lead a happy life. Priya refused to return to their native place,” TOI quoted an officer as saying.
Altercation breaks out
Isakki Raja, who learnt about the accused’s visit, sent an intimate photo of Priya and himself to Balamurugan. According to the officer, an enraged Balmuurgan went to his wife’s hostel in an inebriated state. He confronted her about the matter, which led to a heated altercation between them.
Husband kills wife with sickle
The accused stabbed and killed her with a sickle. “As she lay in a pool of blood, Balamurugan clicked a selfie with the body and posted it as his WhatsApp status,” he added. Rathinapuri police sent his wife’s body to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for a postmortem examination.
