Tamil Nadu: In a shocking incident on Tuesday, a Class XI student reportedly died following an altercation with his classmate inside their school bus in Edappadi town, Salem. Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased boy and his classmate fought while they were on their way home. “Eyewitness statements say when the bus neared their village of Vellandivalasu, the argument escalated into a fight. During the fight, the boy reportedly collapsed inside the vehicle,” the Indian Express quoted a police officer as saying.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby Hospital by the staff and students on the bus. The doctor informed that the boy was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Salem district. His condition was critical and he succumbed to his injuries later on Tuesday. A probe has been launched while the police await the postmortem report to ascertain the reason behind his death.
Police are interrogating the teachers, students, and the driver to take their accounts of what transpired inside the bus. Citing the incident as unfortunate, the officer added that the doctor suspected the boy already had pre-existing health conditions, which contributed to his death. His medical records are being reviewed as of now.
Local reports suggested that the fight broke out after a student allegedly teased another student. However, others noted that it stemmed from a dispute over the bus seat. The Police officer has not confirmed the cause of the death yet.
