Tahawwur Rana Extradition: The 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana has been extradited to India on Thursday, April 10. The United States Special flight carrying the terror attack mastermind landed in Delhi amid tight security. His extradition followed the United States Supreme Court’s rejection of Rana’s request for a stay. Multiple security agencies were present upon his arrival at the Palam Air Force Station. National Investigation Agency (NIA) is taking up Rana’s custody. According to reports, a special investigation team has also been formed which will interrogate Rana. Gate number 2 of Jawahar Lal Nehru (JLN) Stadium metro station, which is opposite to the NIA headquarters was also closed ahead of Rana’s arrival.
Rana is likely to be lodged in a high-security ward in Tihar jail. According to sources, all necessary preparations have been made in the jail in Delhi. Security has also been beefed up outside Delhi’s Patiala House Court where Rana is likely to be produced on Thursday.

Narender Mann Appointed As Special Public Prosecutor
The Central Government has appointed Advocate Narender Mann as Special Public Prosecutor to conduct trials and other matters related to NIA case RC-04/2009/NIA/DLI against Rana and David Coleman Headley. Headley is in a US Prison following a plea deal.
The Ministry Of Home Affairs, in its notification stated: “In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 15 of the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 (34 of 2008), read with sub-section (8) of section 18 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), the Central Government hereby appoints Narender Mann, Advocate as Special Public Prosecutor for conducting trial and other matters related to NIA case RC-04/2009/NIA/DLI on behalf of the National Investigation Agency before the NIA Special Courts at Delhi and Appellate Courts, for a period of 3 years from the date of publication of this notification or till the completion of trial of the said case, whichever is earlier.”
Rana Will Be Punished As Per Our Laws: Piyush Goyal
Earlier in the day, speaking on Rana’s extradition, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that the accused will finally be punished in India as per our laws. He emphasised that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolution to ensure that people who have harmed the country are severely punished. “It was PM Narendra Modi’s resolve to ensure that people who harm our country are severely punished The accused of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks will finally be punished in India as per our laws,” Goyal told ANI.

Big Day For The Country: Surender Singh
Former NSG commando who was part of the operation during the attack and BJP leader Surender Singh called it a big day for the country. He said, “It’s a big day for the country. I thank PM Modi, the American President, and the agencies involved in this extradition process. When he is hanged, it will be a tight slap not just on terrorism but also on Pakistan.”

The government had registered a case on November 11, 2009, at the NIA Police Station New Delhi as Case RC-04/2009/NIA/DL under various sections.
Tahawwur Rana, a Pakistani-Canadian national, was convicted in the US for the banned terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative. He was also accused of providing material support to the group responsible for the Mumbai attacks that killed over 174 people.
