Suspected Serial Killer On The Loose In UP’s Bareilly? 9 Women Murdered In 14 Months
Serial Killer in UP's Bareilly?
Over the past 14 months, nine women have been found murdered in rural Bareilly district, raising suspicions of a possible serial killer. The victims were discovered within a 25-kilometer radius across two police jurisdictions, all aged between 45 and 55.
The women were similarly killed, with all found strangled in fields around noon. Their clothes were disheveled, but there was no evidence of sexual assault, according to TOI.
Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar revealed that the police have been investigating these cases for six months. The similar modus operandi of the murders has led authorities to consider the possibility of a serial killer. "Our teams have been investigating this case for six months and have not ruled out the possibility of a serial killer due to the nearly identical modus operandi of the murders," Kumar stated.

A serial killer is defined as a criminal who murders two or more people over a period without a clear motive, driven primarily by psychological gratification. Such killers often exhibit patterns in victim selection and murder methods.
India’s Recent Serial Killer Cases
India has witnessed several serial killers since independence. The most recent was Ravinder Kumar, arrested in July 2015 for the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl. Kumar later confessed to killing at least 30 more children across Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh over eight years. His detailed confessions, including a specific case in Hathras from 2013, provided accurate descriptions of the crimes, verifying the chilling patterns of his actions.
